Tattoo Aftercare

How you treat your skin in the first 4 weeks directly affects the quality and longevity of your tattoo. Why is aftercare important? To avoid infections and scarring, patchy color loss, and excessive scabbing and delayed healing.

Aftercare instructions:

  • 2-3 hours after your tattoo: wash* & moisturize your tattoo

  • 24 hours-2 weeks: bird bath shower*

  • 48 hours: no heavy exercise

  • First 2 weeks: wash & moisturize 2x a day

  • 30+ days: keep your tattoo moisturized and always apply sunscreen

Washing instructions:

  • Use luke warm water and antibacterial soap to gently clean your tattoo (no scrubbing!)

  • Pat dry with a paper towel

  • Let air dry for 5 minutes then apply a light coat of shea butter

Shower instructions: Bird bath

  • Don’t expose your tattoo to water for too long, quick splashes

Other tips:

  • do not use sunscreen for the first 30 days while your tattoo heals, after 30 days make sure to always use sunscreen

  • do not expose your tattoo to sunlight (sun exposure will damage your tattoo and cause fading)

  • do not soak or swim in any water (pools, hot tubs, baths, etc) for 30 days

  • do not use vaseline, sudocrem, coconut oil (these are heavy and will trap bacteria), or scented lotions (fragrance causes irritation, and often contains alcohol or chemicals)

  • do not itch or scratch your tattoo (will cause damage to your tattoo and prolong healing)

  • do not wear tight clothing for 30 days (friction will damage your tattoo)

It’s my job to tattoo with safety at the forefront, and your job to take care of your tattoo when you leave. If we both are successful, your tattoo will look beautiful for a lifetime.
