About Sunken Moon Studios

Hi! I'm Shelley!

I LOVE thrifting and finding upcycled gems. I search for high-quality, gently-used clothing and give it new life by adding our custom designs. The process can take time as sifting through thrift racks can be taxing, but it makes it worth it when I find a piece I know will look awesome with one of my block prints. Also the look on people's faces when the find a shirt they love and ask "you thrifted this??" I always love answering "yes! I can't believe someone would give this away!"

I hope you can find something unique and wonderful as yourself in one of my clothing creations.

These can be a wide range of discarded materials that have been reused in a way to create a new, better product. What does that mean at Sunken Moon Studios? We spend time at thrift stores, consignment shops, yard sales, and more, to find you the best pre-loved materials to use with our hand carved block prints. We take time to find quality brands and styles in a variety of sizes to give gently used garments a second chance at a new life.

How do we use block prints?

Block printing is a process in which you carve away at a block (typically wood, linoleum, or rubber) to create a pattern, text, or images which are then stamped on paper, textiles, clothes, and more. Block printing by hand can be a long and dangerous process. Typically, first you draft the image on paper, then transfer it (mirrored or reverse of the image you'll be carving) onto the block of your choice. Then, it takes many tiny carvings to create even a small image on a block, and the tools are very sharp and can easily cut your skin. However, once finished, the carving can be reprinted over and over if the block is carefully cared for and cleaned thoroughly, which can be highly rewarding when printing on multiple surfaces and different ink colors. â€‹â€‹

Sunken Moon Studios prints on thrifted threads. We try to reduce the amount of clothing that goes to a landfill by finding gently used items that can be repurposed and reused for our awesome art prints. Every one of our items is 1:1, unique and one of a kind. Rarely do we find multiple pieces of clothing that match, in which case, we like to keep families together and will take them all home. We look for brands that are well known for being sustainable, reliable, durable, and most importantly, comfortable. We hope you enjoy our selection!
